Olympic Torchbearer Nomination

•December 14, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Back in May, and with only 1 year to go until the Olympic Flame arrives in the UK, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) launched the ‘moment to shine’ public nomination campaign.

This campaign gave members of the public a chance to nominate someone living in the UK who has inspired them. So we at here at Jobfinders thought “lets nominate our own Debbie Lock”!

After a lot of careful thought and consideration, we composed a heartfelt and truly inspiring nomination letter and sent it off to the Olympic Committee with fingers and toes crossed!

6 months later……

I am sad to report that we have just received a letter from Lord Seb Coe and unfortunately, Debbie was not chosen to carry the Olypmpic Flame. Lord Coe assured us that the compettion was very stiff with an average of 11 nominations for every place!

All is not lost……

Lord Coe agreed with us that Debbie is a very inspirational person and they would very much like her to be involved in the 2012 Olympic Games by becoming a “Local Leader”. So, please watch this space for further updates on upcoming events…

ON YOUR BIKE FOR BREAST CANCER TIGER CHALLENGE!

•October 11, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Jobfinders Managing Director Debbie Lock is saddling up to raise some more money for “Breast Cancer Campaign”. After dusting off the bike and strapping on the gel seat, Debbie will be training hard in preparation for a 480KM cycle through rural India for the Breast Cancer Campaign Rajasthan Tiger Challenge. http://www.charitychallenge.com/challenge1.html?id=3&cid=840.

I know what your thinking.. Debbie sleeping in a tent.. Yes you read correctly.. A tent. For 9 days she will be cycling through the rural areas of India, encountering many potholes and just as many mosquitos!

Debbie really needs your help to raise £2,800 with any donations being very much appreciated, she can’t do this without your support!

Last year Debbie raised a staggering £10,000 for Breast Cancer Campaign when she ran the Virgin London Marathon and is hoping, with your help, to raise that amount and MORE this year!

There will be a number of fundraising events that will be taking place throughout the year including our “Charity Spring Ball” to be held on Friday 4th May 2012 at The Bromley Court Hotel. Tickets are £50 per person which includes a 3 course meal, live “swing singer”, magician, DJ and much much more. Tickets are available now so please contact us at debbie@jobfinders.co.uk to reserve a place/table. We look forward to hearing from you….

Marathon Fundraising Target Smashed!

•July 8, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Hello all!

Great news has reached me from Breast Cancer Campaign HQ.  Karen Lambert, dedicated manager of my ‘Linford’s All Stars’ London Marathon team, contacted her runners with the following update:

“As a team the target for the 2011 Virgin London Marathon was for you to raise a whopping £210,250.  Well, I’m delighted to announce that not only have you achieved that target, but you have absolutely smashed it and the team total currently stands at a staggering £284,208.06 – £73,958.06 over the original target.

Karen herself has been a wonderfully enthusiastic and supportive manager.  She dealt so patiently with our bombardment of queries and diplomatically “re-shaped” some of our more random fund-raising ideas.  I must rein in the compliments there; I’m afraid that if I praise Karen too much she might reward me with a free pass into the Marathon 2012… Yikes!

Finally, a quick reminder that Pub Quiz 2 is fast approaching.  Tickets are selling fast so don’t delay – call to book your place on 020 8289 9901 or email me at debbie@jobfinders.co.uk.

Back by popular demand – Pub Quiz 2!

•June 30, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Dear All,

BRUSH OFF YOUR BRAINCELLS!

You asked so nicely that I couldn’t refuse – I’ve organised Charity Pub Quiz: The Sequel!

Following the phenomenal success of the original back in May, Quiz 2 will be held in the Function Room of The Bull’s Head Hotel in Chislehurst at 7.30pm on Thursday 21st July.  You will need to book in advance – see details below.

FIRE UP YOUR FACTOID MUSCLES!

Our erstwhile Quizmaster Nigel of A1 Dance Disco will be back, as will the delicious fish & chips supper included in the bargain entry price of £10 per person (max team size of 6).  Once again, all proceeds will go to BREAST CANCER CARE.

In fact, it will all be eerily similar to last time… until you SEE the shiny new Grand Raffle prizes and HEAR the fiendishly tricky new questions.  Will your team TASTE success or will you FEEL the hot flush of shame as an “Epic Loser”?

WHIP OUT YOUR WIKIPEDIA!

Actually, don’t do that; please remember that no mobile/electronic devices are allowed.  It’s all about good old-fashioned brain power – like we used to have when Blue Peter was in black & white and you just had to follow a Vesta Curry with a slice of Arctic Roll.

HYPE UP YOUR HIPPOCAMPUS!

What do you mean, you don’t know what your hippocampus is?  You should hit the reference books or you’re heading for the wooden spoon, my friend.  And another thing you should do is contact me to book your place:

t: 020 8289 9901

m: 07545 572702

e: debbie@jobfinders.co.uk

If anyone is feeling extra-generous and has something lovely that they would like to donate as a Raffle prize, I would be enormously grateful and you will feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I really hope you can join us for what promises to be a great night.

Hugs all round,

D x

My Marathon In Pictures

•April 20, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Whilst I was powering (no, honestly!) my way around the 26 miles of the Marathon, my erstwhile reporters were hopping around London with their cameras to capture images of the day.

Debbies Done The Marathon

They tracked me down at the 17 and 24 mile markers before scooping me up at Horseguards and pointing me in the direction of the pub… well, who wouldn’t need a drink after being overtaken by this bunch…?

Papa Smurf

Captain Testicles

I have so much respect for those who ran in fancy dress on such a hot day.  There was plenty of fun to be had in the sun; it’s not every day you get to shower with hordes of strange men!

Steamy Stuff!

I’m pleased to report that, after a couple of days of not-too-serious soreness, I am feeling pretty good today.  Dangerous really… makes me think that I could perhaps, just perhaps, do it all again next year…!

Virgin London Marathon

•April 20, 2011 • Leave a Comment
Dear All,Well, I survived the VLM - one of the most physically challenging events in the world.  And I have proof – my medal!!!!

As we gathered in Greenwich park early on the morning of the 17th there was such a feeling of companionship, anticipation, mixed with anxiety and excitement. The weather was a little hotter than anticipated considering the vast majority of our training had been done with layers, hats and gloves – it seemed a little unfair. But some 37,500 runners came together to cross over the start line.

The crowds were absolutely amazing! There were thousands of people lining the streets – calling your name and spurring you on when you think you can’t put one foot in front of the other – running across one of London’s finest bridges, Tower Bridge, was just awesome!

I sustained injuries at mile 11 and by the time I got to mile 17 when I saw my family and friends, I burst into tears…….sooo tired, had such sore feet with blisters that had clearly burst as the blood came through the surface of my trainers. I ran/walked up to mile 20 and then just power walked the last 6.2 miles with some really nice people. I consider myself lucky to have completed the race, the weather was so warm, people were dropping by the wayside – literally passing out – the “sweeper” coaches were full! I had hoped to complete the race between 5 and 5 ½ hours but it was simply not meant to be – but I FINISHED in just a couple of minutes over 7 hours.

However disappointed I am with my personal time, I DO have my medal, I DO have an amazing sense of achievement and I am so proud of how much money I have raised for Breast Cancer Campaign – will I do it again? Erm, well I think half marathons at 13.1 miles is a very sensible, 26.2 just simply is not! Put it into perspective – its half way from London to Brighton!!!!

Last time, I promise, but if you haven’t sponsored me up until now, please do visit my page and donate what you can.

We are intending to have a celebration party on 6th May at the Bulls Head Hotel, Chislehurst – everyone is welcome to drop in for a drink for either part or all of the evening and we will be dancing to “souled out”. Can you let me know whether you can attend? If there aren’t enough of us then I might just transfer it to home instead.

So, finally a massive THANK YOU to everyone that has shown me support for physically, emotionally and financially – I wouldn’t have got there without you.

Lots of love

Debs
